I started working with two gentlemen a couple months ago on a project that is now coming to ‘fruition’.

It’s called Simple Method, and it’s the brand in front of a new website design, marketing and domain/hosting management team right here in town.

A guy came into the office today and was talking about a website that hasn’t “hard launched” yet. Well, we’re still in sort of a similar position. We have one salesperson right now, and are hoping to bring on a few more; however there are still a few minor details to wrinkle out on our own website.

The system is very solid and I’m excited to be working with the guys. My role will technically be known as “project manager” for now, but in reality I’m bouncing here and there as needed.

One of the fun things I get to work on are the tutorial videos which clients will walk through to learn how to use WordPress and the associated tools and plugins that go along with it. I’ll also be creating our own marketing videos (I believe). I’m working on building the website today.

See our working logo for now:

So as this is our first year of married life, and therefore our first year living together in a proper house with a garden, there are new experiences and chores in life that we are settling in to. My husband has Very Enthusiastically taken to the idea of a yard and garden. My parents were kind enough to build us a compost bin, and this has become one of Drew’s best friends. He talks to and about it, he feeds it regularly, and researches how to make it healthier. I knew this enthusiasm was big but wasn’t sure how far it had gone until mid-December when Drew informed me he got a Christmas present for our compost. Odd? Yes. Fancy? Absolutely. He even put a bow on the present (which was used Christmas Blend coffee grounds from a local branch of a popular coffeehouse chain) and wrote a tender and loving card…to our compost…

Chicago

We decided semi-last minute to up and go visit Laura’s brother and sister-in-law in their idyllic suburb of Chicago.  The first full day we awoke to a balmy high in the low 80s (F), with more humidity then we are used to in the west.

I found myself to be lacking in appropriate clothing; socks (all wintery-style), shorts, shirts, etc. were all suited to a very late and cold spring.

Some highlights:

• Aforementioned warm weather.

The Field Museum – We happened to take advantage of free day; though some of the premiere exhibits required a ticket.  My brother-in-law pulled the kids out of school and the whole family got to come with us.  It was awesome!  One of the coolest exhibits was the Pawnee Earth Lodge, as seen here on page one of the visitors map. Another fascinating part was the history of American slavery exhibit.  They have a replica slave ship that you walk through… very sobering and sad.  But it is also encouraging to walk out the other side, moving forward in history to the abolition of slavery in the Americas.  Didn’t bring the camera that day unfortunately.

The Lincoln Park Zoo – This free zoo is really awesome.  It has almost everything you possibly want to see and it’s right down by the water.  There is no admission, no gate, you just walk in freely as you please.  The only thing it didn’t have was elephants; which is of course what everyone asks if it had when we tell them how many animals they had.  Highly recommended stop if you are in Chicago.  We’d say if was our favourite part of the trip if asked.

The John Hancock Center – Not to be confused with the “John Hancock Tower” in Boston, MA, this giant checks in at 100 stories high.  We ate lunch here prior to going to the zoo – at the 95th floor.  Laura had a really hard time eating due to experiencing some serious vertigo at that height.  She could evidently feel the building swaying, which apparently it does.

• My brother in law is the worship pastor at a church in the Chicago suburbs.  We got to take in a service and see  him lead.  It was a great experience and one of the songs played was also one of the songs he performed at our wedding.  It’s called “Creation sings the Father’s song” by Keith and Kristyn Getty. See the Youtube below to hear it; it’s a great song… And a sweet CD.
